Galileo Thermometers

This masterful work of functional art is created by master glassblowers right here in the USA. Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) discovered that liquids change density as the temperature varies; the higher the temperature, the less dense the liquid becomes and vise versa. When the temperature rises, the liquid in the glass tube becomes less dense and the bulbs will sink slowly one by one. In the same way, the bulbs will rise as the temperature decreases. The temperature is read by the lowest floating bulb. Each bulb has a brass colored weight with the temperature imprinted on it. The bulbs are individually hand crafted. They differ in weight from each other by only 0.0002 grams and the precise accuracy is plus or minus one degree Fahrenheit. The Piccolo Galileo is 12" high and has five balls which range from 64-80 degrees Fahrenheit (displayed in four degree increments).
